Key Card Access
Keycard access to the Instructional Lab is only for ECEN 403, ECEN 404, or ECEN 453 instructors and teaching assistants (TAs). The instructors and TAs will open the door and supervise the students while they are working inside. Please keep in mind that the maximum occupancy of the Instructional Lab is 25 persons.
To obtain first-time access to the iEMSL Instructional Lab for your course, complete the New User Registration Form. Do not fill out the form if you had access previously.
To renew your access to the iEMSL Instructional Lab, log in to the iEMSL App, where you will be prompted to renew your lab access. The renewal process may take a few days, and you will receive an email notification once your key card access is reactivated.
To enter the lab, you can tap or swipe your AggieCard. Swiping is recommended, as tapping doesn’t always work reliably.
Instructional Lab Sections
The Instructional Lab is split into three sections. Stations 1 through 5 are for the ECEN 453 lab and shouldn’t be used by capstone. Stations 6 through 10 are dedicated stations for capstone students. The back of the Instructional Lab has another area, the Visualization Studio (Stations 11 through 18), which are reserved for iEMSL researchers only.

Equipment and Tools
Equipment for capstone teams are located on the capstone workbenches (Stations 6 – 10). Additional equipment is in the front cabinet labelled C1. Because this is a shared cabinet between the capstone team and the ECEN 453 class, C1 is locked and can only be opened by instructors or lead TA since it contains some expensive and delicate cables and calibration kits. For a lead TA or instructor to receive a key to this cabinet, they must first email the iEMSL director (marcoi@tamu.edu), you can also submit a request in the iEMSL App.
Under no circumstances shall any of the equipment or tools in the iEMSL leave the room, unless given written permission from the lab director. If components or tools from a different part of the iEMSL are needed in the Instructional Lab, our student worker has a check out process to handle this. Equipment and tools for ECEN 453 may not be used by the capstone team, including the items in the shared locker C1.

Clean up
After use of the instructional lab it is the responsibility of the TA or capstone instructor to ensure the stations are free of debris, all equipment is turned off, and cabinet items are returned to C1.
Food and Drinks
Food and drinks are not permitted in the lab at any time. There is a storage rack outside the instructional lab for food and drink storage.
Soldering
The iEMSL’s policy requires that fume extractors must be used any time soldering is taking place in the lab. Any user who is operating soldering equipment or observing another user who is soldering shall wear eye protection. Unless an operator is holding an iron, all soldering irons shall be kept in a soldering iron holder to not damage the benches. All soldering equipment not in use shall be turned off. Only lead-free solder is permitted. No soldering may take place without a Teaching Assistant (TA) present and actively supervising. Soldering irons and fume extractors shall be stored in cabinet C1 when not in use.
High Voltage Station
There is high voltage equipment on station 10. Meeting the appropriate safety standards for working with high voltage equipment will need to be completed by the Capstone Teaching team before the power source is to be used.
Camera Surveillance Policy
The Intelligent Electromagnetic Sensor Laboratories utilizes video camera surveillance to monitor the premises for security purposes, investigating incidents, or illegal activities.
Entering the iEMSL constitutes ongoing consent to video camera surveillance.
