Intelligent Electromagnetic Sensor Laboratories (iEMSL)

Texas A&M University College of Engineering

iEMSL Membership and Facility Access for Texas A&M University Personnel

Are you a Texas A&M University Faculty, Research Students, Teaching Assistants that wants to use the iEMSL for an experiment, measurement, or test?

There are two methods for utilizing the iEMSL for experiments:

  1. Option 1: Becoming an iEMSL User (Requires your supervisor or Principal Investigator to be a member of the iEMSL. Approval from the iEMSL executive committee is necessary for internal Faculty). The only exception to that is if you are a TA for ECEN403/404/453.
  2. Option 2: Requesting a measurement service.

Option 1: Becoming an iEMSL User

This requires your supervisor or Principal Investigator to be a member of the iEMSL. Approval from the iEMSL executive committee is necessary for internal Faculty.

In order to obtain access to the Intelligent Electromagnetic Sensor Laboratories, please follow the process below. If you have any questions about your application, please email us at iemsl@tamu.edu.

New Users Process:

  1. Read all iEMSL Lab Policies.
  2. Complete New User Access Application.
    • For internal non-faculty applicants, your PI has to be an iEMSL Faculty member before you can apply. The only exception to that is if you are a TA for ECEN403/404/453.
  3. Supervisor / PI Authorization
    • If you have a supervisor or PI, they will be notified by email to authorize your application and lab membership fees.
  4. Review and Approval
    • The Managing Director will review your application details. If there are any questions or issues with your access request, you will be contacted via email.
    • For faculty memberships, the executive committee has to approve your membership.
  5. TAMU Aggie Card Access
    • Your TAMU Aggie Card will be entered into the Weisenbaker Engineering Building security system. You will be notified by email once you have been granted key card access to open doors to the iEMSL.
  6. Schedule Your Mandatory Training
You can schedule the mandatory training through the iEMSL app, to go through the lab capabilities, safety, policies and previous training you received.

When your membership expires, all users can renew their membership via the iEMSL App.

Rates

The rates listed below are scheduled for future implementation. While they are not yet active, PIs are required to use these figures for all upcoming proposal planning. Please note that iEMSL faculty members continue to operate on a cost-sharing basis.

Instructional Lab (WEB 167): These rates do not apply to ECEN 403, 404, or 453 instructors and TAs.

Membership Fees$300/semester
Equipment Usage Fees $25 per hour
Training Fees$75 per hour

Usage Fees Applied to equipment >10 GHz (VNA, Spectrum Analyzers, etc.) in addition to membership fee. Minimum 1-hour charge per use. Use over one hour will be rounded to the nearest 15-minute increment. The Anechoic Chamber is available only with assisted operation.

Anechoic Chamber Access and Fees: Use of the iEMSL anechoic chamber is restricted to “Assisted Measurement” or “Measurement Service” (Option 2) by appointment only. To ensure the integrity of the equipment, a qualified operator is required to be present for all sessions, including those for Members. A fee of $100/hour applies and is already implemented.
